Top Ten Prince Covers.

Nothing beats the real thing but these come pretty darn close. In my search for the best Prince covers, I have a newfound love for the underappreciated gem from Sign O' the Times -- "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man".

Richard Swift - I Would Die 4 U
Ben Taylor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Susanna - Dance On
The Be Good Tanyas - When Doves Cry
Martin Sexton - Purple Rain
Duke Special - I Feel for You
Robyn - Jack U Off
Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele - When You Were Mine
El Presidente - Raspberry Beret
Eels - I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man

Wonderful!

Thanks!

I'm liking The Be Good Tanyas but I don't think anything can top Damien Rice's cover of "When Doves Cry."

Many cool versions, but Dent May's is so good it sounds almost like Magnetic Fields. Thanks.

As far as covers go, good post, but
you have got to check out
Robbie Fulks "believe".
It's both amazing, and funny !

these are great, but that version of "i would die 4 u" is actually done by a group called "cush" & they are pretty sweet.

Stereophonics - Nothing Compares 2 U
Then there's Dump (James McNew of Yo La Tengo) doing all Prince on the release 'That Skinny Motherf**ker with the High Voice??"
I also recall a holiday parody called 'Purple Reindeer' by Sean Altman.

Enjoy!

I'm actually a huge fan of Incubus' cover of "Let's Go Crazy." Definitely check it out if you haven't yet... http://www.ourstage.com/blog/2011/5/2/no-cover-prince-doesnt-want-anyone-else-recording-his-songs

Really great collection. I like his tunes, but love some of these versions (much more than the originals). Many thanks for pulling them together. Great site. Great mixes.
